Portrait photo of Michelle Strambler, AVC PrincipalThe school year is upon us! It is with great excitement that I write this letter to you. I am honored to be the principal at A.V. Cato Elementary School. I have been overwhelmed with kind words of welcome from parents, students and staff. In addition, we welcome Dr, Aaron Switzer to A.V. Cato as the assistant principal. He is very excited to serve this community and has been received with open arms. A.V. Cato is very fortunate to have Kori Hoster returning as our Campus Academic Leader.

The faculty and staff have been working diligently to prepare for the arrival of our students. Our teachers have dedicated many hours this summer towards professional development.

The safety of your children is our top priority. We will provide a safe positive environment in which students thrive. This will mean that some safety procedures will be different than in previous school years. Please be patient with us and understand that these changes are meant with the safety and security of our children in mind. Parents will be allowed to walk their students to class the first day. After the first day, any guests will need a government issued identification card to enter A.V. Cato.

We have also made slight adjustments to the dismissal procedures this school year.
  • Car rider students in Grades Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade will be picked up on the side of the school along Barbara Rd.
  • Car rider students in Grades 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th will be picked up on the side of the school along Isbell Rd.
  • Parents of car riders are asked to remain in their car. Students will not be dismissed to a parent who walks up to the front door until after dismissal concludes.

Getting our procedures in place is an important focus of our first couple weeks. In order to work on cafeteria procedures and help our students be successful, we will not have guests for the first two weeks of school. Starting September, you may join your student for lunch. you will check in to the office with your state issued identification card to enter for lunch.

There will be many opportunities for you to take an active role in your child's education. Please monitor Thursday Cato Connection folders closely for important information about opportunities for parent involvement. I also invite you to join our PTO, an  organization that has been a wonderful support to our campus.

Again, thank you for the enormous support that you have shown our students, faculty and staff! We are looking forward to a great school year.
