Ms. Mary Lou Martinez

On Friday, January 10, 2020 students anxiously awaited Ms. Mary Lou Martinez to arrive at A.V. Cato. The students and staff of A.V. Cato gave Ms. Martinez the greatest welcoming one can receive at our school, which is the Parade of Hands. Students and teachers stood outside their classrooms in the corridors and cheered her on as she was led through the hallways by school principal, Ms. Michelle Strambler.  Each classroom handmade sweet cards and creative banners thanking her for her service as a school board member. Our Student Council got to know Ms. Martinez a little better with a short question and answer session, while they enjoyed a wonderful brunch provided by the A.V. Cato PTO. Students also presented Ms. Martinez with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a few special gifts to honor her service. Ms. Mary Lou Martinez has served on the CISD School Board for 15 years, she is currently serving as their Secretary.  As a school board member she is part of a committee which sets the vision and goals for the school district, and holds the district accountable for results. One school board member cannot do the job alone. Effective school board members contribute their talents while collaborating and working as a team with other board members. Thank you Ms. Martinez, for the countless hours you donate to serve our students, staff and school. We appreciate you!
