First Grade – Where You Will Watch Your Child Grow
Congratulations on being the parent of a first-grader at Castleberry Elementary! My name is Jenny Guye and I am excited to be your child’s First Grade teacher for the 2009-2010 school year. You will be amazed at just how much your child will grow this year. Most likely, your child has had the seeds of reading and writing planted, and during first grade, those seeds will grow and blossom making your child an accomplished reader and writer! You will see changes in your child's thinking, as he/she becomes familiar with abstract concepts and symbols. The change will be dramatic -- just compare a tiny seed with a full-grown sunflower! That's the kind of growth you'll see this year in your child.
I am looking forward to a fun-filled year of helping your child to become a successful learner, reader, and first grader. I am also looking forward to working alongside you in order for your child to become an independent reader and learner. Your role as a parent is of utmost importance. A child who reads at home with his\her parents is more likely to succeed in all academic areas. Please allow your child to see your enthusiasm for learning as you read to your child and he\she reads to you. The success of your child greatly depends upon you. READ, READ, READ!!!!!!
I know it will be a great year as I work with you and your child. My hope is that your child will feel at home in our classroom and that a love for learning and education will be deeply embedded in the life of your child. Thank you for allowing me to teach and love your child. If at anytime you have questions regarding your child’s education please feel free to set up a meeting with me before school, during my conference, or after school!
Thanks again,
Jenny Guye
