One of my most important goals for this year is to teach about kindness and to be kind to everyone. Learning to be kind is an important skill for all individuals to learn! Students need to feel loved and be treated fairly by all others in our classroom. Being kind is a classroom expectation along with the following classroom rules.
Classroom Rules
- Listen when others are speaking.
- Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
- Raise your hand before you speak.
- Show respect for school and personal property.
- Follow directions the first time.
Second Grade is an important year for students. It is a time when students begin to be more independent and responsible for their own learning and behavior. Students keep track of their progress in Data Binders and record their behavior score for the day on Classroom Dojo. The students (and parents) can see what specific behaviors that were documented throughout the day. I try hard to keep the amount of points and times that I mark as consistent as possible. However, some days are packed full and it makes it difficult to keep track during the day with all of the learning in the classroom! I have provided the link to Dojo on the main page and on the "Learning Links" page.
Homework is given on Monday's and is expected to be fully completed and turned in by that Friday. I do give the students a break from homework some weeks when there is a lot going on. Homework is optional in the first semester, but expected in the spring semester. I want to get our students prepared for next year! I do understand that there are obligations that come up and make it difficult to complete the homework. That being said, please just let me know if that is the case. I want our students to spend time with family and to be involved in activities outside of school. I do expect all students to be reading EVERY night for at least 20 minutes!
