MPS Run

 Dear Parents,

A. V. Cato Elementary School is participating in the 2010 MPS Run for Their Lives, Kids One Miler, in honor of Laynie and Maddie Holland.  This run will be held on Saturday, November 20th.   The Kids One Miler will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m.  Proceeds benefit the National MPS Society, funding research for the cure of MPS.

We believe that participating in this run will be a fun and rewarding experience for your child.  To emphasize the accomplishment of finishing the run and helping to save lives, every child completing the Kids One Miler will receive a special MPS Society Medallion.  All runners will receive a commemorative T-Shirt and post-run refreshments.

This year A. V. Cato is limited to one bus which will hold 50 students.  The first 50 students who express a need for transportation will be allowed to ride the bus and these students will be assigned a Group Leader that will supervise them at the race.  Group Leaders will only be assigned to students riding the bus.  All other students must be supervised and accompanied by a parent.  Parents whose children are not riding the bus will be responsible for the transportation of their child to and from the race.   Parents who bring their own children will be able to stay or leave at the end of the race according to their own schedules and will not need to check out with the school. Therefore these students will be able to participate without being limited to the school’s schedule.  There will be a place at the finish line for parents to stay while their child is participating in the race.

In order to participate in this extra-curricular activity and to be a part of our A V Cato Team, certain qualifications must be met:

Based on the Second Six Weeks report card, students must have all E’s and S’s for their conduct grades.  No N’s or U’s will be accepted.  Also, students must not be involved in any serious infraction during the Second Six Weeks grading period.  If an infraction has occurred, the decision to remove a student from the team will be at the Principal’s discretion.

Money cannot be returned after November 11th.  After November 11th, if your child has been removed from the team, he or she will still be registered for the race.  Therefore, the parents of the students who were originally riding the bus will have to take their child to the race on their own if they want them to be able to participate.  They will no longer be allowed to ride on the bus.

We have already begun preparing for this event during our P.E. classes and will continue to do so until the run.  I am also sending home a training schedule in this packet.  Each week there is a certain mileage that we would like to see your child try to run or walk at home as part of their training if possible.  The Training Schedule for home is on the back of this letter.

The cost to enter the MPS Kids One Miler is $10.00.  All parents, family members, and friends are invited to enter and join us for this run.  We would love to have you there with us!

We believe this will be a rewarding experience for your child.  If your child would like to participate, YOU MUST RETURN THE ENTRY FORM AND ENTRY FEE BY:     November 11th, 2010.   You may go to "Useful Links" to find a copy of the Registration Form.  It will be located in the Document Container.   To find out more information about MPS, you may visit mpssociety.org which is also located under "Useful Links".

Thank you.
