Parents & Guardians,

As the school counselor, it is my honor to help your children achieve emotional, social and academic success.  There is nothing more important to me than helping ensure that your child’s AV Cato Elementary experience is happy, healthy, and productive.

It is with great joy that I introduce, “Tiki” our Pet Partner! Tiki is a Maltipoo who is nearly three years old.

Research has shown that the presence of a dog on campus is beneficial to students in many ways.  The animal’s loving, warm, gentle, and playful presence helps develop motivation for both academic and behavioral success.  Therapy dogs have also been shown to increasing self-esteem, empathy, socialization, reading, and problem-solving skills in students with whom they interact (Fine 2000, Reichert, 1998).

Note from Pet Partners: At Pet Partners, we believe that the human-animal bond is a mutually beneficial relationship that improves the physical, social, and emotional lives of those we serve. We are motivated by connection, compassion, and a commitment to sharing this meaningful bond with everyone who can benefit from time spent with an animal.

Pet Partners’ staff, thousands of volunteer therapy animal teams, and health professionals associated with our organization are advancing knowledge of the human-animal bond and making a difference in communities around the world.
